Patricia Griffin, director of Fort Hays State University's Academic Advising Center, and Caroline Fox, coordinator of academic advising and career exploration, were among several participants who presented at the 14th annual Kansas Academic Advising Network conference recently in Topeka.
Additional attendees from FHSU included Maggie Denning, coordinator of academic success programs, and Stephanie Cole, graduate assistant in academic advising and career explorations.
The theme for the conference was “Adventures in Advising” and included presentations, KAAN steering committee elections, the annual business meeting, unveiling a new KAAN logo and an opportunity to network with other Kansas advisors. Academic advisors and faculty from across the state participated.
Fox and Griffin’s presentation was titled “The Amazing Race: The Tourist Approach to Affinity Diagrams.” It included information on how to understand, create and implement an affinity diagram for academic advising. Based on their peer evaluations, Fox and Griffin were ranked among the top presenters. They will present “The Amazing Race” at the National Academic Advising Association national conference in October. The KAAN Annual Conference for 2007 will be hosted by FHSU next September.
“The best practices we learned from each session will be implemented into our programs at FHSU,” said Griffin, who is also Region VII liaison.
