Alumni Association announces governmental relations hire

The Alumni Association at Fort Hays State University has announced the hiring of Tomi Dechant as the governmental relations intern for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Dechant, Hays junior, is majoring in political science with an emphasis in campaign management. She is well-versed in the legislative arena and campus relations and currently serves as the project coordinator for Be Heard!, a campaign focusing on student voter registration, education and mobilization. She holds active membership in the V.I.P. Student Ambassadors, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, SPURS, and Pi Sigma Alpha.

In her new role, she will work closely with the alumni office to implement and maintain an effective legislative support network regarding issues specific to higher education and the state legislative arena. Responsibilities include coordinating educational workshops, engaging in legislative research, attending legislative meetings and events, and tracking important legislation that could affect higher education in Kansas, especially those issues related to FHSU.

The FHSU Alumni Association, established in 1916, is dedicated to identifying and serving the needs of more than 39,000 graduates living throughout the United States and 61 foreign countries. The legislative support network is composed of alumni, students and friends of FHSU who volunteer their time to serve as advocates of Fort Hays State.
