Belief in higher education inspires scholarship

A personal belief in the importance of education has led to a new scholarship at Fort Hays State University. The FHSU Endowment Association received a $25,000 distribution from the estate of Lucille Wright, Peoria, Ariz., a 1928 graduate of FHSU, to create the Lucille Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Scholarships will be awarded annually to students in the College of Education and Technology who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and financial need. The first scholarship will be awarded during the 2008-2009 academic school year.

"This gift will not only be a wonderful assistance to many FHSU students in the future, but will be a great tribute to Ms. Wright and her belief in higher education," said Ruth Heffel, director of planned giving at the association.

The FHSU Endowment Association is an independent, non-profit corporation designated by the state of Kansas to receive gifts on behalf of Fort Hays Sate University.
