Kuksi's art on display at Smithsonian

Art work by Kris Kuksi, instructor of art at Fort Hays State University, was accepted for display in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2006 exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Kuksi's "Portrait of George Guillaume" is one of 51 works accepted out of 4,000 submitted in the competition. His works, and others', can be seen on the competition's Web site, http://www.portraitcompetition.si.edu/exhibition/exhibition.html. Viewers can vote for their favorites in the people's choice area of the site.

George Guillaume, a Hays resident, is "seen by many but known to few in our community," said Kuksi.

"He has become a great subject for my work many times over. He possesses a distinctive and timeless look that inspires me to capture and celebrate in a great work of art," he said.

Kuksi's piece will hang in the National Portrait Gallery through February 2007.
