Two FHSU students receive awards for art work

Fort Hays State University's Jennifer Mettlen Nolan and Brandi Withington were recognized this year at the Kansas Collegiate Aesthetics exhibit at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg.

Kansas Collegiate Aesthetics is a juried biennial exhibition that is open to undergraduate and graduate students attending Kansas colleges and universities.

This year, juror Jan Schall, curator of contemporary and modern art at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, selected 79 works from several hundred submissions for the exhibition. Fourteen pieces were selected for cash awards ranging from the Best of Show, two Awards of Excellence, two Awards of Distinction and nine Merit Awards.

Nolan, Hays graduate student, was awarded the Award of Excellence and $500 cash for a piece titled "Self-Dental Exam." She is the daughter of Barbara Mettlen, Sylvan Grove. Withington, Norton senior, was awarded an Award of Distinction and $300 cash for her piece, "Untitled." She is the daughter of Lynn and Carolyn Withington, Norton.
