Marketing and Management Club members take trip to New York City
06/01/2004

Twenty-five students from Fort Hays State University's Marketing and Management Club recently traveled to New York City.

Students were introduced to opportunities in both marketing and manufacturing and had the opportunity to visit Macy?s and area landmarks such as Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, Rockefeller Center and the World Trade Center site.

"It was pretty impressive and thought-provoking for me and the students," said Dr. Micol Maughan, associate professor of management and marketing.

Each year, marketing and management students in the College of Business and Leadership select an urban site to visit, usually Denver and Colorado Springs, but this year chose New York City as their destination.

"It gives them the opportunity to see a variety of businesses that we don't have in northwest Kansas. The guide said that more people work in Macy's than live in Ellis County and that more people shop there in a day than live in Hays,? said Maughan.

"I loved it!" said Erika Taylor, Wichita sophomore. "I thought it was one of the best trips I've ever been on."

Students who wish to make the Marketing and Management Club trip must first earn most of the money to attend through fundraising and service projects and must earn points to pay their way.
