Fort Hays State University's Department of Communication Disorders is in the process of applying for re-accreditation for its graduate program in speech-language pathology (SLP). The Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) will send site visitors to the campus to confirm the information submitted by the university. Their visit is tentatively scheduled for March 1. The program invites public comments as a part of the review of its graduate education program.
The CAA sets standards for the accreditation of graduate education programs that prepare entry-level professionals for careers in audiology and SLP. FHSU's program was first accredited in 1986, and has been re-accredited in 1991 and 1997. It is one of four CAA accredited programs in Kansas.
As part of the re-application process, the program must solicit written comments from the public on its graduate program at least 60 days before the CAA site visit. Therefore, interested parties are asked to submit their comments to the CAA by Dec. 31, 2004.
