FHSU music students make semi-finals for Naftzger Awards
05/12/2004

Three of 15 vocal students selected for the semi-finals of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra's Naftzger Awards competition were from Fort Hays State University.

Alisha Eickhoff, Great Bend graduate student, Jamie Hickel, WaKeeney senior, and Heather Schnoor, Hildreth, NE, junior, were selected for the semi-finals based on a 30-minute recording.

"That is a good percentage of the semi-finalists, obviously," said Dr. James Brown, assistant professor of voice and opera at FHSU.

"They all sang wonderfully and impressed the judge very much," said Brown.

"Unfortunately," he said, "they did not make the final round of competition. However, this is a great start to representing our Music Department in regional competition."

The Naftzger Awards is a competition for young artists throughout Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma that is sponsored by the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
