The women's rodeo team from Fort Hays State University brought home third place from the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo in Alva, OK, from Oct. 28 to 30.
Karli Sherwood, Holly, CO, senior, roped her first calf in 3.3 seconds and her second calf in 3.6 to take second place with a total of 6.9 seconds. She missed first place in the long round by 0.2 seconds. She tied her goat in 10.7 seconds but she needed a time between 6.4 and 7.9 seconds to get into the short round.
Abby Wagaman, Emporia sophomore, tied her first goat in 7.9 seconds and her second in 7.8 to take fourth place in the final rankings with a time of 15 seconds. She completed the barrel race in 15.71 seconds but missed qualifying for the final.
Other women's team members who competed were Haley Hazen, Protection sophomore; Amy Smith, Bertrand, NE. sophomore; Katie Gill, Abilene junior; and Ashley Thurston, Scott City freshman.
The men's team also competed but did not acquire any points.
Austin Boggs, Winfield junior, threw his first steer in 4.8 seconds to qualify for the short round. He threw his second steer in 5.2 seconds for a total time of 10 seconds on two head, taking sixth-place.
