Vocalists well-received at competition

Fort Hays State University took top honors at the National Association of Teachers of Singing's West-Central Regional competition Nov. 4-6 at Emporia State University.
FHSU students competed in solo performances against students from Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming.

" It went extremely well," said Dr. James Brown, assistant professor of music. "There was a lot of buzz about certain performances from FHSU students."

Jamie Geist, WaKeeney senior; Alysha Ladenburger, Pratt senior; and Heather Schnoor, Hildreth,NE, senior; were all semi-finalists.

Schnoor received 99 out of 100 points in the preliminary rounds, setting an FHSU record.
Callie Schlegel, Trego home-school student and a private student of Brown, received fourth place in the high school division.

Brown called the competition's results a "real tribute to that talent level."

Students who performed in the competition are listed below by hometown and classification.
CHAPMAN: Sam Markley, freshman.
GARDEN CITY: Alexis Corbett, junior.
GREAT BEND: Alisha Eickhoff, graduate student.
HAYS: Alexis Korbe, freshman; Chris Colwell, senior; Sarah Glassman, senior; and Theisi Gibson, sophomore.
HILDRETH, NE: Schnoor.
HUGOTON: Lindsee Wilson, senior.
LINDSBORG: Laura Decker, freshman.
LYONS: Emily Cline, freshman.
PRATT: Ladenburger.
TREGO: Schlegel.
