The Department of Nursing at Fort Hays State University is hosting a nurse practitioner celebration from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the foyer of Stroup Hall on the FHSU campus.
Maren Moody, a nurse practitioner and a 1999 FHSU graduate, will give a brief presentation about the profession before taking questions.
Nurse practitioners are registered nurses with advanced education and advanced clinical training. They diagnose acute and chronic conditions, prescribe medications, treat illnesses and counsel patients on healthcare issues.
? We want to give people more information about what nurse practitioners can do in health care,? said Jane Peterson, associate professor of nursing.
To honor the profession, Nov. 7-13 is National Nurse Practitioner Week.
Peterson said the nurse practitioners relevance to the health field is emphasized with this year?s slogan: ?Your Partner in Health -- The Nurse Practitioner."
The FHSU Nurse Practitioner Celebration is sponsored by FHSU and the Hays Medical Center.
It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
