Geographic Information Systems Day to be celebrated at FHSU Nov. 17

Fort Hays State University's Department of Geosciences will host GIS Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 17.

Celebrated internationally, the goal of GIS Day is to share the many ways that geographic information technology impacts society and to provide training in GIS and related geospatial technologies.

Events scheduled are:
8 a.m. -- GIS lab opens for Open House, Tomanek Hall, room 125.
10 a.m. -- GIS training seminar, Tomanek Hall, room 125.
10:50 a.m. -- Break.
11 a.m. -- Global Positioning System Training Seminar, Tomanek Hall, room 125.
11:50 a.m. -- Break.
Noon -- Lunch with presenters, Tomanek Hall, room 227.
1 p.m. -- "Kansas Data Access Support Center: DASC and Data For Our GIS Operations," Tomanek Hall, room 125.
1:30 p.m. -- "Kansas Adjutant General's Office: GIS, Homeland Security, and Disaster Preparedness," Tomanek Hall room 125.
2 p.m. -- Break.
2:10 p.m. -- "City of Olathe: Spatial Analysis For 21st Century Municipalities," Tomanek Hall, room 125.
2:40 p.m. -- "Garden City/Finney County: The GIS Consortium - Partners For the New Century," Tomanek Hall, room 125.
3:10 p.m. -- "Sedgwick County - Internet GIS Applications," Tomanek Hall, room 125.
3:40 p.m. -- Reception for Presenters and Students, Tomanek Hall, room 125.
5 p.m. -- GIS Lab closes.
