11/19/2004

Several Fort Hays State University advanced and graduate ceramics students recently traveled to Chicago to visit the Sculptural Objects and Functional Art exhibition.

The two-day exhibition of contemporary art included art from 90 galleries around the world.

? The purpose of taking students to SOFA was to give them a glimpse into the culture of galleries and collectors,? said Linda Ganstrom, associate professor of art. ?As an artist, it was so exciting to see artists new on the scene selling small figurative sculptures for many thousands of dollars and selling out the first day.?

The group also visited the Contemporary Art Museum, Millennium Park, the Chicago Art Institute Museum and the Second City Comedy Club.

FHSU students who attended were Jay Heiman, Barnard, senior; Stacey Letsch, Luray, graduate student; Jessica Conner, Larned, graduate student; Jane Travis, Hays, graduate student; and Andrew Nolan, St. Francis, graduate student.
