The Sternberg Museum of Natural History will be closed to the public on Tuesday, Oct. 26, for collection maintenance.
The collection maintenance procedure actually will begin after the museum closes on Sunday, Oct. 24, and will continue through Monday and Tuesday. The museum normally is closed on Mondays, so persons who wish to visit the museum on Tuesday will be the only ones affected by this schedule change.
According to museum director Dr. Jerry Choate, "This will be the first time it has been necessary to perform this collection maintenance procedure since the collections were moved into the dome back in 1998. The purpose of the procedure is to ensure that the collections remain in excellent condition in perpetuity, so that they can continue to serve as the foundation of the programs of education, research, and service provided through the museum."
