Tigers In Service looking for volunteers for Special Olympics
03/16/2004

Tigers In Service -- a student-run program designed to match volunteers with service opportunities in the Hays area -- is looking for volunteers for the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament March 18-20 in Gross Memorial Coliseum.

"We're just looking for any capacity of volunteers, whether that be high school or college students or community members," said Kelley Kuhlmann, Tigers In Service director and Dodge City senior. "We'd just really like for people to get involved."

Volunteers are needed from 1-4 p.m. on Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. Kuhlmann said that while volunteers are asked to work at least a one-hour shift, they can work for as many hours as desired.

Volunteers are asked to keep score and to help the Olympians improve their individual basketball skills by helping them to shoot and dribble the ball.

Kuhlmann said this is the first time that Tigers In Service has worked with the Special Olympics.

"Everyone's really excited about it," Kuhlmann said. "My hope is that we will do more things with this organization in the future."

For more information or to volunteer, contact Kuhlmann by phone at (785) 628-5592 or Clint Myers, assistant director of Tigers In Service and Dodge City senior, at (785) 628-5592.
