New student gaming organization sponsors 'Risk' tournament for students, community members

Fans of the world conquest game "Risk" have the opportunity to take part in a tournament at Fort Hays State University on Saturday, March 13.

The event, to be held in the Black and Gold Room of the Memorial Union, is sponsored by the Collegiate Association of Table Top Gamers (CATT-G). Play begins at 3 p.m. "Risk" is a board game suitable for ages 9 and up.

Community members as well as students are welcome in the tournament. A registration form, official rules and more information can be found at the group's Web site: Registration is $3 for pre-registered players and $5 for walk-ins, who are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early.

Many local businesses have donated prizes for the top three winners and for many door prizes, according to Thomas Elliott, Washington, KS, senior and president of CATT-G.

CATT-G, a new student organization on campus formed in fall 2003, has more than 20 members whose purpose is to provide a "relatively organized atmosphere for people interested in a wide variety of games," said Elliott.

The club is also involved in community service projects such as Relay for Life and the FHSU blood drive.

Elliott said that most of CATT-G's funds go to maintain a library of gaming material. Games currently in the organization's library are "Risk," "Munchkin" and several "Dungeons and Dragons" books.
