Recognizing the desire for entrepreneurship on campus, Fort Hays State University's newest organization, the FHSU Entrepreneurship Club, will host its first meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, in McCartney Hall, room 109.
As part of the first meeting, the club will feature local businessman Jaron Weese, a 2002 FHSU graduate in information networking and telecommunications and business administration. He is the founder of Weese and Associates LLC -- a consulting practice that specializes in helping small businesses with e-commerce related issues -- and the innovative bowling ball online retailer Bowled-Over.com.
Weese will speak to students about his experiences and challenges in creating his company.
The FHSU Entrepreneurship Club, founded in September 2004, was created to foster new business development by FHSU students. The club provides one-on-one business assistance, mentoring programs and network opportunities for all FHSU students interested in starting and operating a business.
"We've had a lot of interest in the club so far," said Jeremy Lewis, chief operating officer for the FHSU Entrepreneurship Club and Great Bend senior.
"I think the club will be very effective," he said. "We've got a great and very active student sponsorship. All of the club officers are active students on campus. We've got awesome guest speakers who will cover things from strategic business plans to Jaron presenting the basics of getting a business started. We've got a lot to offer with this club."
FHSU students and community members are invited to join the club.
