Students will once again have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the corporate world during Fort Hays State University's 17th annual Career Day.
Career Day, sponsored annually by the FHSU Office of Career Services, will be from 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Gross Memorial Coliseum.
"It's a day for Fort Hays State University to showcase our great students to employers," said Dan Rice, director of Career Services. "We can show them what we're made of and how we can add value to their organization."
Students will be able to meet with various businesses, government and industry employers as they present their resumes and visit about job openings and opportunities within a company.
More than 63 employers will be on hand for students to meet with.
"For students, it's a networking day as much as anything. They can look for internships or for a personal job," Rice said.
Rice said that while students are given this opportunity to meet and network with employers, many do not take it.
"I would like to see 1,000 students represented -- that's my goal. Typically in past years, we've had 500 to 600 show up," he said.
"There's not an easier time to do this because you don't have to send your resume and you don't have to travel to say Kansas City to meet with an employer," he said. "It is very cost effective and also very time effective. Students will get a chance to see employers right here. It's a win-win situation for the students."
E-Enterprise Rent-A-Car is this year's corporate sponsor and Koch Industries Inc. is this year's company sponsor.
All attendants will be able to register to win one of the 10 $50 cash door prizes, two $100 e-gift certificates (for books and tuition), two $50 Wal-Mart gift certificates, one $50 gift certificate from Pizza Hut, two $25 Dillons gift certificates and numerous other door prizes donated by local businesses.
The event is free and open to FHSU students, alumni, faculty and staff.
