HAYS, KS - Ten Fort Hays State University students came home with state awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Annual Student Seminar in Wichita. All Kansas universities, colleges and high schools are eligible to compete for KAB awards.
Kevin Windholz, Quinter senior, received two awards for intern television. He took first place in Newscast while taking honorable mention in the Public Affairs category. Windholz worked on his television internship at KSNC-TV in Great Bend.
Mike McKenna, Russell senior, also took home a first place for Radio DJ Personality.
A group of eight individuals made up the team which took home two awards. The first award was second place in the Continuity Writing Class for 30 Second Radio Public Service Announcement (PSA) while the second was second place in the Continuity Writing Class for 30 Second TV PSA. "MASH Out Cancer" was the title for the award-winning PSA which was done for the Hays Relay for Life.
The team consisted of Marcella Marez, Hays graduate student, Soila Bencomo, Ulysses sophomore, Garrick Augustine, Hays freshman, Nate Tonroy, McCracken junior, Clay Cheney, Utica senior, Joe Greene, Clay Center sophomore, Sonya Norris, Hays junior, and Penny Lamb, Wichita, 4860 North Oliver, senior.
Becky Kiser, instructor of information networking and telecommunications, accompanied the students to Wichita.
