Fort Hays State University's Department of Leadership Studies and the Center for Civic Leadership have received $50,000 to enhance the youth leadership initiative.
Funding for this project was provided in part by the Kansas Health Foundation. The foundation, located in Wichita, is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to improve the health of all Kansans.
The Center for Civic Leadership will use the $50,000 with a new program, the Youth Leadership Academy.
Next year the academy will start traveling across the state to help further educate middle school and high school students on ways in which to be better leaders through areas like leadership, teamwork and communication.
"Were grateful for the Kansas Health Foundation's vision in recognizing the importance of our new youth leadership academy," said Dr. Edward H. Hammond, FHSU President. "Students across the state will have an opportunity to develop their leadership skills through this initiative."
