FHSU Police department makes administrative changes

Ed Howell was previously the Fort Hays State University campus detective, but now serves as the director of police and security for campus.

Howell replaced Sid Carlile, who retired as campus police chief this past June.

John Walz moved from sergeant to field lieutenant and Charlene Lix, formerly the department's administrative assistant, is now office manager and campus parking administrator.

Howell said these changes are part of a streamlining of the department's activities.

"There really won't be a whole lot of changes from day to day," said Howell. "It's something that the public really won't see."

Howell said he plans to have the department more involved in community policing.

"We want to create an environment were everybody feels safe," said Howell.

Another change that the department is looking at within the next 30 days is the addition of a full-time night security officer for the academic buildings.
