FHSU crops team takes honors at National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture

HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University crops team competed recently at the National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture crops judging contest in Crookston, MN.

Mark Lubbers, Plevna senior, the only student to compete for awards, placed third in plant and seed identification and was the third-place individual over all the four sections of competition.

Other members of the team who participated as practice for next year were Kristi Darnall, Palco senior; Toni Wesley, Lake City junior; and Andy Zweygardt, St. Francis junior.

The team beat out Iowa State University, California Polytechnic State University, Middle Tennessee State, the University of Wisconsin and others for the first-place award in the senior division of the Agricultural Knowledge Bowl, which tests participants' knowledge concerning general agriculture, animal science, agribusiness and agronomy.
