Damage from lightning strike repaired, Sternberg Museum's weather station back online

Weather data from Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History is back online. The museum's Discovery Room weather station is linked to the Web with almost real-time data updates.

"The weather station had been running for many months and was one of the more popular Web pages for the museum," said Assistant Director Greg Liggett, "but an electrical storm knocked out the system last September."

"We had to replace the system and install surge protectors so that, in the event of another lightning storm, the system would be better protected," he said.

The Web page shows current temperature, wind speed, humidity and the trends for the last 24 hours. Also shown are interesting data on the moon's phases and current distance from the Earth. The current data are updated every five minutes.

The weather data can be seen by following links on the museum's Web page at www.sternbergmuseum.com.
