Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art to display Traditional Chinese Scrolls

Fort Hays State University 's Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art has on display a collection of traditional Chinese scrolls.

Leora Belle Stroup collected the 30 plus scrolls while she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in Asia following World War II. The scrolls were given to FHSU in 1983 and are rich pictorials and calligraphic images of landscapes, coastal views, flora and fauna of the East, and of traditional oriental figures painted on rice paper mounted on silk.

Although no official investigation and dating had been completed, Stroup believed that several of the scrolls in the collection could be at least 300 years old.

The Stroup Collection will be on display in the Moss-Thorns Gallery, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., until Feb. 11.
