Fort Hays State University brought back seven awards -- two gold, four silver and a bronze -- from the Region VI conference of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in Denver from Jan. 11-13.
The FHSU Endowment Association's five-year Centennial Campaign fundraiser was given a gold award in the category of Excellence in Educational Fundraising. The Endowment Association also won a bronze award in the Excellence in Fundraising Materials category for a direct mail piece. An FHSU Alumni Association Homecoming brochure on the Lewis Field Club won a gold award for Excellence in Graphic Design.
The university took two silver awards in the Excellence in Multimedia category, one for Web sub-site or special section for the university's Encore Series Web pages, and another for CD-ROM for "Explore Your World with Geosciences," a promotional CD produced by the Geosciences Department and the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technology.
In the Excellence in Institutional Relations category, the graphic design section of FHSU's University Relations won a silver for Best Solution to an Institutional Communications Challenge for designs used in the Affordable Success campaign. Materials included everything from billboard designs to candy bars and designs that tied a wide variety of regular publications into the Affordable Success theme.
Another silver award, this one in the Excellence in Communications -- Overall Publications category, was for publications program improvement. The entry in this category was a template brochure -- conceived and designed by the university's Academic Marketing section and University Relations -- that makes it possible for any department of the university to put out a full-color brochure for a fraction of the usual cost.
