Guest professor to give lectures at FHSU and critique student work

Nikki Blair, assistant professor of ceramics at the University of North Carolina, will present two lectures in early November at Fort Hays State University as part of the Creative Arts Society's Visiting Artists Program.

Blair will discuss her work -- mixed media sculpture -- at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Rarick Hall, room 114. She will also introduce the collaborative project that she and students will create Thursday and Friday.

"The project will feature photographs of students with a material that they use on their body, like socks, soap or deodorant," said Amy Schmierbach, assistant professor of art at FHSU.

Blair will discuss contemporary artists at 1:30 p.m., Nov. 6, again in room 114. She will visit various classes Thursday and Friday to critique students' work and to work with students on the collaborative project. Schmierbach said that once the pictures are developed, they will be hung on the walls of the first floor in Rarick Hall.

Students interested in having Blair critique their work must contact Amy Schmierbach by phone at (785) 628-4272 or by e-mail at
