A Fort Hays State University student was severely injured during an altercation early Thursday at an off-campus apartment complex on West 12th Street.
Clint Johnson, a Healy freshman, remains in the intensive care unit this morning at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was transported to Wichita by LifeWatch.
The incident is under investigation by the Hays Police Department. Dr. Edward H. Hammond, FHSU president, is attending a meeting in Washington, DC, but he has been monitoring the situation closely by telephone and has directed university personnel to cooperate fully in the investigation.
Detective Ed Howell of University Police urged this morning that anyone who has information about the incident should contact the Hays Police Department immediately.
Upon learning of the incident Thursday morning, Dr. Diane Scott, assistant vice president for student affairs, and Kenton Olliff, director of the Kelly Center, traveled to Wichita to be with the family and express the university's concern and support.
