Salien receives French Educator of the Year award

Fort Hays State University's Dr. Jean-Marie Salien has been recognized by the Kansas Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French as the French educator of the year.

Salien is a past president of the chapter and has also served as the Kansas and Kansas City, MO, administrator of the National French Contest that is administered by the AATF from FHSU to between 1,000 and 2,000 kindergarten through 12th grade students every year. It is given to about 100,000 students nationwide.

Kristin Redburn, president of the Kansas chapter, said, "Certainly Jean merits this award, not only for his energetic devotion to our chapter, but also for his passion to teach and promote the culture, language and literature of France and other French-speaking countries."

Salien is scheduled to be presented this award at the annual meeting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, in Wichita.
