The Fort Hays State University Alumni Association Board of Directors welcomes two new board members in June, Twila Flowers and Kim Stewart. These members were introduced June 7 at the association's Board of Directors summer meeting.
Twila (Coffey) Flowers, Wichita, has was selected to serve a four-year Board term. A native of Oklahoma, Flowers earned a diploma in nursing in 1955. She is a certified sexual assault nurse examiner and is the owner of Twila's, a fine jewels and custom design business.
Flowers is a member of numerous organizations including the International Association of Forensic Nurses, Medical Society of Sedgwick County Alliance, AMA Alliance, Botanica and Old Cowtown and is on the board of the Medical Service Bureau. She has served as president of the Medical Society of Sedgwick County Auxiliary and the Board of Education for Central Christian Academy.
Flowers and her late husband, Clell Flowers II, MD, have four children: Clell "Chuck" B. Flowers III, Tim, Patrick and Cheryl.
Kim Stewart, a Smith Center native, has been appointed a faculty board representative and will serve a three-year term. He earned his bachelor of science degree in 1981 and a master of science degree in 1988, both in industrial education. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Technology Studies, a position he has held since 1997. Stewart is a member of the International Technology Education Association, Epsilon Pi Tau and the National Federation of Interscholastic Officials Association.
Among the many honors and distinctions Stewart has received are Grant County Teacher of the Year, FHSU Outstanding Faculty Advising Award, Outstanding Teaching Innovator Award and a nomination to represent FHSU for the National Academic Advising Association.
He was inducted into the FHSU Tiger Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He and his wife, Jeri, have two children: Jace and Kale.
The FHSU Alumni Association, established in 1916, is dedicated to identifying and serving the needs of more than 37,000 graduates living throughout the United States and 61 foreign countries. The Board of Directors is a 25-member governing board that sets the policy and
direction of the association in developing lifelong relationships between the university and its alumni and friends.
