Johansen helps establish national financial planning curriculum
06/27/2003

Fort Hays State University's Dr. Tom Johansen, associate professor of economics and finance, was one of 21 university faculty members of the Academy of Financial Services who met with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. on June 6-7 to establish a financial planning curriculum to serve as a model for colleges and universities across the country.

According to Kathryn Ioannides, CFP Board director of education and examination, many schools don't have the resources to develop their own financial planning curriculums, so the model curriculum is intended to spark some interest.

"It's our hope that by providing a program outline for those schools, we will greatly increase the overall number of programs available to students," she said.

The AFS is "an academic organization that encourages basic and applied research and university-level curriculum development in personal financial planning and financial planning services, and encourages interaction between financial services professionals and academicians."
