Liberal?s Willowtree Golf Course will be the site Saturday, June 28, of the Third Annual Harris Golf Tournament and Social and Barbecue, an event sponsored by the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association.
The tournament and social are dedicated exclusively to raising scholarship funding so that students from Southwest Kansas can attend FHSU. Tournament prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category, for the longest drive on the fairway and for closest shot to the hole. Registration is 10 a.m. with tee-off scheduled for 11 a.m.
After the tournament, Tiger supporters and friends are invited to enjoy a social and barbecue to hear the latest from Fort Hays State University representatives including Mark Johnson and Annette Wiles, men's and women's basketball coaches; Tom Spicer, FHSU athletic director; Virgil Scott, president and CEO of FHSU Endowment Association, and Debra Prideaux, executive director of alumni and governmental relations.
Special guests will also include Dr. Norvan Harris, a 1942 FHSU graduate who received the Alumni Achievement Award in 1992 for his outstanding and unselfish contributions in service to his community, state and nation. It is the university's highest recognition of its graduates. He will be joined at the social and barbecue by his wife, Dorothy.
The tournament registration fee, $60 for FHSU Alumni Association members and $65 for non-members, includes greens fees, shared cart, lunch, barbecue, and entry gift. Registration for the social and barbecue is $10 for members and $12 for non-members.
