Dr. Art Hoernicke, chair of the Department of Special Education, and Robert Scott, assistant professor of special education, presented an in-service at Interlocal A.N.W. Special Education Cooperative No. 603 in Humboldt in April.
The program, "Looking at Special Education in Kansas from a Multicultural Perspective," was presented to a group of school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, school social workers and para-educators.
The A.N.W. Interlocal serves public schools in Allen, Neosho and Woodson counties in southeast Kansas. The population of culturally and linguistically diverse students in Kansas schools is growing at three times the average rate for the rest of the United States, according to the Kansas State Department of Education.
