Adrian Melott will speak about "What happened to science education in Kansas, why, and what can be done to repair the damage?" on April 27, at 7 p.m. Thursday, in the lobby of the Sternberg Museum of Natural History.
Melott is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kansas and is a research specialist in cosmology. He received a masters of divinity and served as a minister in the '70s, was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1996 and has co-authored an elementary school curriculum that introduces cosmology to children.
The presentation will discuss the tactics used by creationists, why this happens so much more in the United States that elsewhere and how to effectively combat their efforts to undermine science curricula.
The presentation is sponsored by the Hays Public Library, Sternberg Museum, Department of Physics at Fort Hays State University, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and the Baha'i Fellowship. The admission will be free for this presentation.
