Livestock Judging Team takes first place at National Swine Registry Contest
04/30/2003

Out of 29 teams from across the United States, Fort Hays State University's livestock judging team placed first in the 2003 National Swine Registry Picture Judging Contest.

The contest involved 10 classes of breeding and market swine, seven of them including genetic records, making the classes more challenging to place. The team placed the classes in the January issue of The Seedstock Edge, the official publication of The National Swine Registry, and the results were announced April 20.

Jerod Horchem, Ransom sophomore, led the FHSU team in individual points, scoring 481 out of a possible 500. He took third place in individual competition out of 160 participants.

Other members of the team that participated were Tressie Bryant, Penokee junior; Bo Ringer, Concordia junior; Brandon Gibson, Hiawatha senior; and Levi Mitzner, Larned junior.
