FHSU students sweep top awards at annual graphic design competition

Graphic arts students from Fort Hays State University took the top four awards at the American Institute of Graphic Arts Wichita Chapter's 15th Annual Student Portfolio Forum.

Of the top six awards, FHSU students brought home five: the overall Judge's Choice winner, Asako Maruyama, Tokyo, Japan, senior, whose portfolio was also chosen for first place in the overall portfolio competition; second-place overall portfolio, Bang Wool-Han, Seoul, South Korea senior; third-place overall portfolio, Erin Zamrzla, Hays senior, who also won for best packaging.

Danny Gutierrez, Hays junior, Brett Buhrman, Hesston senior, and Brian Simpson, Medicine Lodge senior, won honorable mention for their work.

It was the fourth year in a row that FHSU students have taken the top three awards. The competition this year was held on April 5.

AIGA is a national organization of professional designers dedicated to furthering excellence in communication design as a broadly defined discipline. FHSU participates in the competition sponsored by the Wichita chapter.

Scholarship money was attached to each award. First place took home $300; second was $200 and third was $100. Each individual award also was worth $100.
