Hays business student at FHSU named to receive Byron Bird graduate scholarship

Michelle Desmarteau, Hays senior in business and accounting at Fort Hays State University, has been awarded the 2003-2004 Byron Bird Scholarship from the Educational Foundation of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

The award, a $1,750 scholarship for graduate study in accounting, is given annually to an outstanding student who demonstrates extraordinary service to community and university. An awards ceremony will be Nov. 20, 2003, in Wichita.

Desmarteau, a 1999 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, plans to continue her studies in business and accounting at FHSU.

Byron Bird, a Kansas CPA from Liberal, was the recipient of the first National Public Service Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
