Pianist, violinist to bring Polish composer's music to life in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center

Two specialists on the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) will perform music for piano solo and music for violin and piano at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center at Fort Hays State University.

The production by the university's Department of Music features pianist Matthew Bengtson of the Settlement Music School, Philadelphia, and Polish violinist Blanka Bednarz of Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA.

The program will feature Szymanowski's "Sonata for Violin and Piano in D Minor"; "Etudes," Nos. 1, 2 and 3; "Myths"; "Mazurkas," Nos. 8, 15, 17 and 18; "Masques," No. 1 ("Scheherazade"); and "Nocturne and Tarantella."

Tickets may be purchased at the door. They are $6 for general admission and $4 for senior citizens and children between the ages of 13 and 18. Admission is free with valid FHSU student ID.
