Several Fort Hays State University information networking and telecommunications students received honorable mentions during the annual Kansas Association of Broadcasters Student Contest and Seminar in Wichita, April 5, at the Wichita Hyatt Hotel.
The winners were:
Jason Adkins, Hutchinson junior, for "Safe Sex" in the Undergraduate Television, 60-second Commercial/Public Service Announcement (PSA) category.
Skyler Butler, Great Bend sophomore; Ashley Maddern, El Dorado senior; Gabriella Carlos, former student from Dodge City; Jess DeClue, former student from Pratt; Ryan Murphy, Smith Center senior; Tyler Munn, Aurora, NE, sophomore; and Lorisa Wright, Concordia senior; for "FHSU Relay for Life" in the Undergraduate Television, 30-second Commercial/PSA category.
Justin Weigel, Hays freshman; Ross Montgomery, Beloit senior; Jennifer Montenegro, Wichita, freshman; Cole Reif, Great Bend freshman; Brandon Billinger, Ulysses sophomore; Casey McAvoy, Offerle senior; Robby DuBroc, Overland Park sophomore; Todd Haskell, Kinsley freshman; for KFHS TV "Campus Smarts" in the Entertainment Program category.
Other INT students and faculty attending the KAB event were Charissa Sander, Hays junior; Kaycee Karlin, Hays sophomore; Jon Zweygardt, St. Francis freshman; Joel Ewy, Jetmore junior; Matt Larsen, Ellsworth senior; Dr. Mark Bannister, chair of the INT Department; and Becky Kiser, assistant professor of media studies.
" The students also had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Wichita area radio and television broadcasters who offered insight into getting that first industry job and attend the KAB Career Fair featuring Kansas radio and TV stations with information about job openings and internships," said Kiser.
Kiser and Bannister also attended the concurrent annual meeting of the Kansas Broadcast Educators Association (KBEA).
Following the KAB Student Seminar, the group toured the studios of Clear Channel Radio and KWCH-TV in Wichita and met with Lindsay Matz Morgan, Clear Channel radio promotions coordinator, and Jarrod Bartlett, FOX Kansas Eyewitness News at Nine anchor and KWCH-TV news reporter, who are former students in FHSU's INT program.
