Fort Hays State University's financial planning team returned from the national finals of the American Express Planning Invitational with a fourth-place finish.
Kendra Wise, Ellinwood senior, Lacy Wolters, Atwood senior, and Lucas Horton, Pratt senior, came in the nation behind Kansas State, Purdue, and Texas Tech.
The competition consisted of three phases: a written financial plan, an oral presentation of the plan with a twist, and a game show event.
|" Our team was very impressive in winning the presentation phase of the competition," said Dr. Tom Johansen, associate professor of finance and financial planning program director.
" They presented to five judges, all professionals in financial planning, in the boardroom of American Express Financial Advisors," said Johansen. "Comments from the judges included 'by far the best presentation,' 'very professional and geared toward the client,' and 'displayed compassion and care for the clients,' " said Johansen.
Johansen said that, at the awards ceremony, William Elliott, vice president of financial advice for American Express, said, "I am very proud of this team from a university which has been a perennial powerhouse in this competition for several years. Their presentation was client oriented and showed great compassion. The winner of the case presentation is Fort Hays State University."
" I am very proud of Kendra, Lacy, and Lucas for their display of integrity and professionalism while representing FHSU," said Johansen.
This is the fifth year that FHSU has participated in the American Express Planning Invitational, placing first, first, third, and fifth in the previous four years.
