Dr. Kathleen Sanders, assistant professor of teacher education at Fort Hays State University, has been invited to serve as a member of the International Reading Association's Professional Standards And Ethics Committee for the 205-2006 committee year by Dr. Richard Allington, IRA president elect.
The International Reading Association is a 300,000 member professional organization of those involved in teaching reading to learners of all ages and which addresses a broad range of issues in literacy education worldwide.
The committee conducts impartial investigations of possible breaches of the IRA's Code of Ethics as directed by the IRA Board and makes recommendations to them.
Thirteen members plus five ex-officio members serve on the committee. "This is an honor for me to become involved in this committee," said Sanders. "I have attended the training sessions and reviewed reading specialist programs for IRA for several years. I am excited to be able to take an even more active role in this important process."
