FHSU livestock judging team takes sixth at Fort Worth contest

Fort Hays State University's livestock judging team placed sixth at the recent Southwestern Stock Show and Rodeo in Fort Worth, TX.

The team had its best finish of the year at the contest, beating New Mexico State (the champion from the National Western Stock Show in Denver).

" Defeating such a good team should help boost our confidence levels," said Kolby Burch, livestock judging coach.

The team placed third in swine judging and fourth in cattle judging. Individually, Cody Bobinmyer, Culbertson, NE, junior, was named the top overall judge in the contest. Bobinmyer received several prizes, including his choice of a pair of Justin-brand boots. Sean Gleason, Holdrege, NE, junior, finished 19th overall.

" He proved he is going to be a tough competitor," said Burch. "Sean has never judged prior to coming to FHSU and the overwhelming majority of college competitors have junior college experience."

Team members Lance Manker, Indianola, NE, senior, Codi Watson, Barnard senior, Mandy Johnston, Blair, NE, senior, and Andrea Zillinger, Phillipsburg junior, also contributed to the Tiger victory.
