FHSU students to offer tax assistance to community

With tax season fast approaching, the Fort Hays State University Accounting Club is sponsoring the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for those seeking assistance.

VITA provides free tax help to eligible members of the community. Clients, particularly those with low and limited income, will be helped with basic tax returns.

Assistance is available from 5-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 1-24 and from 9-11:30 a.m. on two Saturdays, Feb. 5 and 12, in FHSU's McCartney Hall, room 205.

VITA will continue from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays (March 3, 10, 17 and 31 and April 7).

To qualify for assistance, filers must have an adjusted gross income (AGI) or less than $34,000 and use form 1040EZ, 1040A or 1040. VITA can also help with Schedule A-Itemized Deductions and Schedule B-Interest and Dividends.

Accounting Club members are not qualified to work with Schedule C-Business Income, Schedule D-Capital gains, Schedule E-Rent Income and Royalties, Schedule F-Farm Income or Foreign Student Returns.

Appointments cannot be scheduled. Help will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information, visit during scheduled VITA times or e-mail VITA at acctclub@fhsu.edu.
