The Western Kansas String Academy, sponsored by the Fort Hays State University Music Department, is accepting applications for new students this spring who play
-- or wish they played -- violin, viola, cello or bass.
This regional program, which costs $150 per semester, provides challenging and fun musical learning experiences and performance opportunities for students 5-18 years old. Students are placed in one of four orchestras, depending on their skill levels, and receive music history, appreciation and theory classes, and private lessons from academy instructors. They may participate in chamber ensembles as well.
Rehearsals begin Saturday, Jan. 29. For more information on the academy, contact Matthew Means, assistant professor of music, at (785) 628-5327 or visit the WKSA Web site at www.fhsu.edu/wksa.
