Rebecca Applebaugh, Assistant Professor of Nursing
Fort Hays State University will welcome Rebecca Applebaugh as a new full-time assistant professor of nursing beginning Aug. 18, 2002. Applebaugh received a bachelor of science in nursing from FHSU and a master of science in nursing from Wichita State University. Applebaugh has been the attending RN for the Medical Practice Group, Oncology at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Epsilon Gamma Chapter, Oncology Nursing Society and the Case Management Society of America.

Kirstie Auzqui, Assistant Senior Women's Administrator for Student Athlete Services and Compliance
Kirstie Auzqui, Fort Hays State University alumna, has joined student athlete services and compliance as an assistant senior women's administrator. She began her new position Aug. 5, 2002. Auzqui received a bachelor of science in physical education with a supporting area in sports medicine and athletic training from Chadron State College. She also received a master of science in sports administration and athletic training from FHSU. Auzqui has been a part-time physical education teacher, assistant volleyball coach and athletic trainer in the Johnson County school district.

Jennifer Boyce, McMindes Hall Complex Director
Jennifer Boyce joined FHSU as a new full-time complex director of McMindes Hall. She received a bachelor of science in English writing with a minor in anthropology from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA.

Jared Brown, Admissions Counselor
Jared Brown, Fort Hays State University alumnus, has joined the Office of Admissions as a new full-time admissions counselor. He began his new position May 28, 2002. Brown received a bachelor of business administration management and a certificate in leadership from FHSU. He was involved in several FHSU activities, including as Wiest Hall Council vice president and on the FHSU baseball team.

Kolby Burch, Livestock Judging Coach
Fort Hays State University will welcome Kolby Burch as a new full-time livestock judging coach and program specialist beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Burch received an associates degree of science from Casper College and a bachelor of science in agriculture education from Iowa State University of Science and Technology. Burch has been an assistant livestock judging coach at Iowa State University. He is a member of the American Shorthorn Association, the American Suffolk Sheep Society, the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Association of Agricultural Educators.

Rosa Maria Casteneda, Instructor of Modern Languages
Fort Hays State University welcomes Rosa Maria Castaneda as a new full-time instructor of modern languages. She began her new position beginning July 1, 2002. Castaneda received a bachelor of arts in secondary education from Women's University of the Sacred Heart in Lima, Peru, and a master of arts in applied linguistics from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Castaneda has been a graduate teaching assistant of Spanish language and culture at Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Andria L. Cooper, assistant professor of justice studies
Fort Hays State University welcomed Dr. Andria L. Cooper as an assistant professor of justice studies. She began her position on Jan. 13 as a part-time faculty member, but will be full-time as of Aug. 18. Cooper received a bachelor of arts degree from FHSU in 1998 and a juris doctorate from the University of Kansas in 2000.

Dr. Gary D'Urso, Instructor of Geosciences
Fort Hays State University welcomed Dr. Gary D'Urso as a new full-time instructor of geosciences on Dec. 8, 2002. D'Urso received a bachelor's degree in geology from Thiel College in Pennsylvania, a master's in geology from the University of Pittsburgh and his doctorate in geology from West Virginia University. D'Urso has worked as a classroom instructor, geologist for the Unites States Army Corps of Engineers and as a hydrologist for the Columbia Environmental Research Center before coming to FHSU.

Christie Fuller, Instructor of Computer Information Systems
Christie Fuller, FHSU alumna, joined FHSU as a new full-time instructor of computer information systems. She received a bachelor of business administration from Kansas State University and a masters of business administration from FHSU.

Michael Hogwood, Instructor of Communication
Michael Hogwood joined FHSU as a new full-time instructor of communication. He received a bachelor of fine arts in theatre arts from Emporia State University and a master of fine arts in theatre from Oklahoma State University. Hogwood was an instructor at Oklahoma State University and directed numerous plays at OSU.

Dr. Linda Hyatt, Assistant Professor of Special Education
Dr. Linda Hyatt joined the FHSU faculty as a new full-time assistant professor of special education. She began her new position on Aug. 19. Hyatt received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Southern Utah University, a master of education degree from Utah State University and a doctorate in educational administration from Walden University. She is involved in the National Educational Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, the Council for Learning Disabilities and the Nevada Association for School Administrators.

Dr. Jeff Jordan, Assistant Professor of Music
Jeff Jordan will join the FHSU faculty as a new full-time assistant professor of music beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Jordan received a bachelor of arts in music education from Florida Southern College, a master of music in composition from the University of Kansas and a doctor of musical arts in conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Jordan has been the director of band and the performing arts department chairman at Olympia High School in Orlando, FL. He is a member of the Florida Bandmasters Association, the Music Educators National Conference and the College Music Society.

Dr. Larry Love, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education
Dr. Larry Love joined FHSU as a new full-time assistant professor of teacher education on Jan. 2, 2003. Love received associate degrees in music and psychology from Contra Costa Junior College in San Pablo, CA, a bachelor of arts in sociology and music from the University of California at Berkeley and his master's of art in education from the University of San Francisco. Love's doctorate of education in organization and leadership is also from the University of San Francisco. Love has been on several television specials. Some of those include NBC's "Christmas Around the World" staring Dick Van Dyke and Gene Kelly, and singing the title song for CBS's presentation of "It's a Nightmare, Charlie Brown." He is affiliated with the Screen Actors Guild, the Make a Wish foundation, the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists and the National Educators Association.

Dr. Mary Martin, Assistant Professor of Business Administration
Fort Hays State University will welcome Dr. Mary Martin as a new full-time assistant professor of business administration beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Martin received a bachelor of science in advertising from Kansas State University, a master of business administration from FHSU in 1991 and a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Martin has been an assistant professor of marketing at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

Carrie Nassif, Instructor of Psychology
Fort Hays State University will welcome Carrie Nassif as a new full-time instructor of psychology beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Nassif received a bachelor of arts in psychology and a master of arts in psychology from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. Nassif has been a predoctoral intern at the Counseling and Psychological Services Center at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. She is a member of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students.

Dr. Scott Nikolai, Assistant Professor of Political Science
Dr. Scott Nikolai joined the FHSU faculty as a new full-time assistant professor of political science. He began his new position on Aug. 19. Nikolai received a bachelor of arts from St. Norbert College and a master of arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Nikolai has been an assistant professor of political science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Dr. Edwin Olmstead Jr., Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Fort Hays State University will welcome Dr. Edwin Olmstead Jr. as a new full-time assistant professor of chemistry beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Olmstead received a bachelor of science in chemistry and biochemistry from Kansas State University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Duke University in Durham, NC. Olmstead has been an assistant professor of chemistry at Gordon College in Wenham, MA. He is a member of the American Chemical Society in the divisions of Inorganic and Chemical Education.

Lottie Porsi, University Nurse
Lottie Porsi, Fort Hays State University alumnus, has joined the Student Health Center as a full-time university nurse. She will begin her new position Aug. 18, 2002. Porsi received a bachelor of science in nursing from FHSU and has worked as a part-time university nurse at FHSU since August of 2000.

Dr. William Rayburn, Assistant Professor of Music
Fort Hays State University will welcome Dr. William Rayburn as a new full-time assistant professor of music beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Rayburn received a bachelor of music from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, a master of music in music history and literature from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate of arts in music from the University of Mississippi. Rayburn has been a fine arts director and choral instructor at Briarcrest Christian School in Hernando, MS. He is a member of the National Association of Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association and the College Music Society.

Dr. Eugene Rice, Assistant Professor of Philosophy
Fort Hays State University will welcome Dr. Eugene Rice as a new full-time assistant professor of philosophy beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Rice received a bachelor of arts from Conception Seminary College in Conception, MO, and a Ph.D. from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Rice has been an instructor at Marquette University and a volunteer teacher at the Milwaukee Adult Learning Center/Council for Spanish.

Stephanie Romberger, Admissions Counselor
Fort Hays State University welcomed Stephanie Romberger as a new full-time admissions counselor on Dec. 23, 2002. Romberger received her bachelor's degree in communications from Fort Hays State University. Romberger previously wrote for University Relations and also wrote for the University Leader at FHSU. Romberger was also named a United States National Collegiate Award Winner in Communications by the United States Achievement Academy.

Jared Schiel, Instructional Technologist
Jared Schiel, Fort Hays State University alumnus, has joined the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technology as a new full-time instructional technologist. He began his new position Sept. 30.
He received a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from FHSU in 2002.
Schiel has been a graphic designer and Web designer for Smoky Hills Public Television.

Robert Scott, Assistant Professor of Special Education
Fort Hays State University will welcome Robert Scott as a new full-time assistant professor of special education beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Scott received a bachelor of arts in English and a master of arts in curriculum and instruction from the University of Kansas. Scott has been an academic director at the Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY.

Ali Sezer, Instructor of Chemistry
Ali Sezer joined FHSU as a new full-time instructor of chemistry. He received a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the Yildiz University in Istanbul, Turkey, and a master of science in chemical engineering from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. Sezer was an instructor of chemistry at the University of Nebraska.

Jill Stafford, Instructor of Leadership Studies
Fort Hays State University welcomed Jill Stafford as a full-time instructor of leadership studies on Jan. 15, 2003. Stafford received a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Kansas State University and her master's in agriculture education from Texas A&M University. Stafford has worked as a community service program tutoring coordinator for K-State's Community Service Program, a student grant research assistant for K-State's College of Agriculture, graduate teaching assistant for Texas A&M University and as an Ellis County extension agent for 4-H youth development before coming to FHSU. Stafford joined FHSU's Center for Civic Leadership as a part-time instructor August 2002.

Trevor Steinert, Instructor of Political Science and Docking Institute Research Scientist
Trevor Steinert, Fort Hays State University alumnus, has joined the FHSU Political Science Department as a full-time instructor and the Docking Institute as a research scientist. He began his new position June 23, 2002. Steinert received a bachelor of arts in political science and a master of liberal studies in political theory from FHSU.

Dr. Davey Stephens, Assistant Professor of Communication
Dr. Davey Stephens joined FHSU as a new full-time assistant professor of communication. He received a bachelor of arts in sociology, a master of arts in sociology and a doctorate in communication from the University of Oklahoma. Stephens was recently a visiting professor at the State University of New York in Potsdam, NY.

Kelleen Stine-Cheyne, Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies
Kelleen Stine-Cheyne joined FHSU as a new full-time assistant professor of leadership studies. She received a bachelor of science in economics from Texas A&M University, a master of education in counseling and student affairs from the University of North Texas and is obtaining a doctorate in philosophy from Texas A&M. Stine-Cheyne was an instructor in the department of agricultural education at Texas A&M University.

Brady Ternes, Instructor of Health & Human Performance and Assistant Athletic Trainer
Fort Hays State University welcomed Brady Ternes as a new full-time instructor of health and human performance and assistant athletic trainer on Jan. 5, 2003. Ternes received a bachelor's degree in physical education from Fort Hays State University and will receive a master of arts in sport science and pedagogy from Gardner-Webb University. Ternes has been a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Gardner-Webb University, was an athletic trainer for the Winston-Salem Energy of the National Indoor Football League and was an athletic training intern for the Kansas Orthopedic Clinic.

Jon Tholstrup has been promoted to a full-time program specialist for the Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications. Tholstrup received a bachelor of science degree in art education from Kansas State University and is working towards a master of liberal studies in information networking and telecommunications from FHSU.

Eddie Trenkle, Instructor of Health and Human Performance and Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Eddie Trenkle joined FHSU as a new full-time instructor of health and human performance and assistant men's basketball coach. He received a bachelor of science in physical education and a master of physical education and athletic administration from Idaho State University. Trenkle was the assistant men's basketball coach at Idaho State University.

Dr. Greg Turek, Assistant Professor of Psychology
Fort Hays State University will welcome Dr. Greg Turek as a new full-time assistant professor of psychology beginning Aug. 19, 2002. Turek received a bachelor of arts in psychology and Spanish from Nebraska Wesleyan University. He earned a master of science in social psychology and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Turek has been a visiting assistant professor of psychology at Scripps College in Claremont, CA. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society.

Suzanne Vesely, Reference and Copyright Librarian
Suzanne Araas Vesely has joined Fort Hays State University's Forsyth Library as a new full-time reference and copyright librarian. She began her new position July 1, 2002. Vesely received a master of arts in library and information science and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Iowa. She is a member of the American Society for Information Science, the American Library Association and the Library and Information Technology Association.

Keri Waltner, Instructor of Modern Languages
Keri Bryant Waltner has joined Fort Hays State University as a full-time instructor of modern languages. She will begin her new position Aug. 19, 2002. Waltner received a bachelor of arts in German and French from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. She received a master of arts in German literature and a Ph.D. in German literature from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Waltner has been the curriculum coordinator and an instructor of English at the Hays Language Institute and was a part-time instructor at FHSU.
