FHSU to support military called to duty
12/16/2002

Neither Fort Hays State University students who are called to military duty nor their families need to worry about being left out in the cold.

FHSU has taken its call to action by reassuring all military personnel that the university will support those called to duty in any way possible.

The university is willing to support military personnel and their families in many different areas including academics and residential housing.

"The university has taken a very flexible stance on this issue and we are more than willing to work with students during these tough times," said Dr. Herb Songer, vice president for Student Affairs.

Examples of flexible situations include specifically the area of academics. Due to the call to duty many military persons may not know the length of time they will be gone. FHSU has set up several methods for these students to remain enrolled and be able to continue with college after they return.

Another issue FHSU would like to reassure military personnel of is the status of residential housing. The university is flexible and will allow family members of those called to duty to remain in FHSU housing.
