FHSU Department of Nursing in award-winning journal

Fort Hays State University's Department of Nursing was given several mentions in the October 2002 issue of The Kansas Nurse.

Sally Schmidt, assistant professor of nursing, and Jo Ann Doan, associate professor of nursing, co-wrote the article "ABCs of Stroke Prevention: A Guide for RNs."

The article identified stroke prevention guidelines and reported research findings that demonstrated an improvement among participants in the identification of stroke risk factors and warning signs after they engaged in educational discussions with nurses.

The Kansas Nurse Foundation also published its competitive scholarship awards in the October issue of Kansas Nurse.

Jane Peterson, assistant professor of nursing, received the District 6 Elizabeth See Research Fund Endowed Scholarship for her research "Heart and Soul Physical Activity Program."

Sophomore Teresa Snyder, McPherson, received an award for her B.S. in nursing studies and graduate student Jane Tanking, Seneca, received an award for her M.S. in nursing studies.
