2002 Tiger Call goal set for $430,000

The Fort Hays State University Endowment Association along with many volunteers will begin the 2002 Tiger Call Alumni Phonathon at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Since 1978, Tiger Call has been an annual event of the Endowment Association to raise funds that support general scholarships at FHSU. The goal for Tiger Call 2002 is $430,000.

The Endowment Association relies on volunteers from the university to make this event successful. In the coming five weeks more than 500 volunteers from departments and student organizations will be calling alumni to update them on FHSU activities and to ask for donations to the scholarship program.

Leading off this year's massive dial-up will be Dr. Carrol Haggard, chair of the Department of Communication; Dr. Tom Newton, chair of the Department of Teacher Education; and volunteers from the FHSU administration, Endowment Association and Athletic Department.

"Tiger Call is the largest annual appeal, and the biggest supporter of university scholarships," said Cathy Van Doren, director of annual giving. "We couldn't do this without volunteers from the university and the support of the Hays business community."

Annual giving appeals provided $1 million for FHSU during the 2002 fiscal year, which helped the university award $1.6 million in scholarships for the 2002-2003 academic year.

Tiger Call 2002 will begin on Sunday and conclude on Thursday, Nov. 21. For more information on the event contact the FHSU Endowment Association by phone at (785) 628-5947.
