Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History announces its holiday hours early this year so that visitors can plan in advance.
"We want everyone to know when they can see the museum with their families over the holidays," explained Jerry Choate, museum director.
For the Thanksgiving holiday, the museum will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and be closed all of Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28. Normal hours will resume on Friday, Nov. 29.
The museum will be closed as normal on Monday, Dec. 23, through Wednesday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day. Normal hours will begin on Thursday, Dec. 26.
For the New Year holiday, the museum will be closed as normal on Monday, Dec. 30, and will be closed all day Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, New Year's Day.
"Because Christmas and New Year's fall on a Wednesday this season, and since the museum is normally closed all day on Mondays, we wanted to give our staff the extra day to spend with their families rather than have to open the museum in the middle of the week," Choate said.
During this holiday season, visitors have many things to see at the museum. In addition to the museum's permanent exhibitions, the temporary exhibit "Blind Ambition: Paintings by Lisa Fittipaldi" has extended its stay through Dec. 29, and "Museum Memories: A Centennial Exhibition," will feature objects from the museum's collection not previously exhibited in the new building.
Normal museum hours are from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday and closed on Mondays.
