10/29/2002

Fort Hays State University's debate team recently spent several days out of state at four debate tournaments.

The team took a 12-day trip to compete at the Kentucky Round Robin, the Kentucky Invitational and the University of Northern Iowa.

"The highlight of the trip was Jason Regnier's individual performance at the Kentucky Round Robin," said Dr. William Shanahan, debate coach and assistant professor of communication. "He tied for fourth speaker, among a group of competitors that reflect the very best the country has to offer."

Some members of the team later spent five more days on the road, traveling to Malibu, CA, for another competition.

"Fort Hays State debate has blazed a revolutionary trail over the last few years," said Shanahan. "We are excited about our arguments and the competitive challenge involved in advancing them."

Debate team members who participated are listed below by hometown.

HAYS: Jason Regnier, senior.
HUTCHINSON: Michael Richardson, freshman.
MANHATTAN: Paul Mabrey, junior.
SALINA: Jason Regnier, senior.
WICHITA: Brent Saindon, senior.
