The Hays Community Choir is now forming for its annual Cathedral Concert at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Any interested persons are invited to attend the first rehearsal at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, in Malloy Hall, room 115, on the Fort Hays State University campus.
Each subsequent rehearsal will convene at the same place and time each Monday until the final rehearsal at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the church in Victoria. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled as needed.
This year's concert literature includes Palestrina's "Alma Redemptoris Mater," Victoria's "Ave Maria," Elizabeth Poston's "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree," Charles Ives' "A Christmas Carol," and Benjamin Britten's "There is No Rose."
Dr. William Rayburn, assistant professor of music at FHSU, will conduct this year's choir. Rayburn is new to the faculty of FHSU this year.
"I would like to have a great showing this year in order to welcome Dr. Rayburn," said Dr. Rager Moore II, associate professor of music at FHSU and former Community Choir conductor, who will join the choir as a member this year.
